When he was 19, Dan West joined the Army in 2005 as a Human Intelligence Collector. After training in Fort Benning and Fort Huachuca, he was stationed at Fort Wainwright in sunny (and cold) Fairbanks, Alaska. From Fort Wainwright, he deployed to Mosul and Baghdad, Iraq with the 172nd Stryker Brigade. After returning home, Dan studied Arabic at the Defense Language Institute, then helped stand up the new Support Troop Battalion of 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss. After a medical discharge due to a knee injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Dan wasn’t ready to get out of the fight and worked as an instructor at the Human Intelligence Collector Course in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. It was at that time that he began his standup comedy career.

Dan has performed at clubs, festivals, and colleges across the country including Gilda’s Laughfest, the San Francisco Punchline, Washington State University, and University of California Berkeley. Dan hosted the 2010 MTV Disaster Tour, and is the former humor writer for Fitness Inked magazine. Dan has some benefit work with many organizations, often donating proceeds of shows and merchandise sales to veteran support organizations like Wounded Warrior Project and Swords to Plowshares. These days, Dan can be found touring all over the country sharing his message that humor can overcome any adversity, and writing his popular weekly pop culture blog.

I’ve performed on shows with Dan West multiple times over the past several years when touring through the Midwest Not only is Dan incredibly funny, but it also makes my job much easier to have comics on the bill with his level of professionalism. His style is unique and genuine as he mines his own military experience to tell stories. In addition to being very entertaining for audiences, his material is equally as enlightening. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dan to any organization or event looking for a polished speaker or comedian.

I have known Dan West for longer than I can remember and can honestly say he is one of the best HUMAN BEINGS I’ve encountered in this “thing” we call show business. Maybe it’s his relatable experiences in life, whether it be growing up or his “Man Shaping” time in the military, Dan has a way of putting you at ease to the point where you feel like you’ve known him for years and you’re talking about something that JUST happened to the both of you.

Dan connects with ALL walks of life but his true passion shows when he speaks of his time in the military. His pride and his respect for veterans shows each and every time he performs.

Dan West would be a great addition for any organization, and is someone you can be proud to call a friend as well as colleague.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Dan West personally and professionally and he is one of the best people I know. We have performed stand up comedy in front of veterans numerous times, and I’m always impressed with the connection he makes with them. It’s incredible.

Dan is honest, and he brings that honesty to the stage in a way you rarely see anymore. His personal experience of military life, mixed with his humor, creates an atmosphere where you are simultaneously laughing and learning. Dan is a good, hard working guy who would make an excellent addition to any team.
