Music Can Help You Breathe

Since I’ve come out about my sexual assault, people have been asking me, “How’d you deal with something like that?”  

It doesn’t take me long to give them my answer, “Music.  Music helped get me through those desperate, dark, lonely times.”  At first it was rock and roll.  Songs of angst, revolution, and revolt became my anthems. 

But as I grew older, songs of pain and of broken love became my musical preference.  I became a kindred spirit with the bands and crooners who sang about such sad things. 

These talented artists made me realize I wasn’t alone. They made me realize I was still human.  They helped me breath.
